Support Statements

As individuals and organizations have come to understand about the school trusts, the organizations they represent are adopting positions of support for beneficiary involvement with the school trusts, for the prudent and profitable management of the trusts at every level and for distributing the revenues so that they make a difference in the education of school children.

In June of 2006 the delegates at the National PTA Convention adopted a resolution that was sponsored by Alaska PTA and supported by all the PTA members of CLASS. The resolution passed with a unanimous vote. Many state PTAs had previously adopted resolutions on the issue and those positions are found on the state pages of this website.

The Washington School Directors Association, supported by the Alaska School Boards Association and the Utah School Boards Association, brought a resolution on School Trust Lands to the National School Boards Association in April of 2007. The resolution passed with a unanimous vote.

In 2008, the Nevada State Education Association sponsored a position on School Trust Lands that was considered by the Representative Assembly at the National Education Association's Annual Meeting. The Representative Assembly adopted the position in July of 2008.

The National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) adopted a position several years ago.
